The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, marking another significant milestone for students across Nigeria. The announcement was made via a post on WAEC’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, August 12, 2024.

According to the post, candidates who sat for the WASSCE can now access their results online by visiting the official WAEC results portal.

“The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform Candidates who sat WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024 that the result has officially been released today, Monday, August 12, 2024,” the examination body wrote. The post also included a link to the results portal, guiding students on how to view their performance.

The release of the results is a significant moment for the over 1.8 million candidates who participated in the examination across Nigeria. During a press conference in Lagos, the Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Amos Dangut, provided detailed insights into the outcome of the exams and the performance of students.

Dangut revealed that a total of 1,685,889 candidates, representing 93.39% of those who sat for the examination, have had their results fully processed and released. This means that the vast majority of students can now access their results without delay. However, he noted that 119,327 candidates, or 6.61%, have had one or more of their subjects’ results withheld due to ongoing processing issues. These students will have to wait a little longer as WAEC works to resolve the outstanding issues.

In terms of performance, the statistics provided by Dangut indicate a relatively positive outcome for many candidates. Out of the 1,805,216 candidates who sat for the examination, a significant 1,332,089 candidates, representing 73.79%, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects. This figure includes results with or without English Language and/or Mathematics, which are typically critical subjects for further academic progression.

The ability to secure credits in at least five subjects is a crucial benchmark for students, as it often determines eligibility for higher education opportunities, including admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The performance statistics suggest that a considerable number of students have met this requirement, positioning them well for the next steps in their educational journey.

According to Dangut, students can access their results online using the “Result Checker PIN and Serial Number” provided on their Smart Identity Cards. These Smart Identity Cards were issued to candidates and used during the examination process, ensuring that each student has the necessary information to view their results online.

To check their results, candidates need to visit the official WAEC results portal and input the required details, including the Result Checker PIN and Serial Number. This online system is designed to provide immediate access to individual results, allowing students to quickly see how they performed in the examination.

In addition to the online results, Dangut also mentioned that the hard copies of the certificates for candidates whose results have been fully processed and released will be available within the next 90 days. This means that by mid-November 2024, students can expect to receive their official certificates, which will serve as formal proof of their academic achievements in the WASSCE.
