    Finland Takes Legal Action Against Ipob Leader, Simon Ekpa

    Finland’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Elina Valtonen, announced that the case of Simon Ekpa, a prominent pro-Biafran agitator linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is now before Finnish courts.

    The Finnish government has confirmed that it is addressing the legal case involving Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafran agitator known for his involvement with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

    This follows a petition filed by the Nigerian government regarding Ekpa’s secessionist activities.

    During a press conference in Abuja, Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Elina Valtonen, revealed that the case is now under judicial review in Finland.

    Ekpa, who identifies himself as the Prime Minister of Biafra, has been active in promoting sit-at-home orders in Nigeria’s South-East, despite IPOB’s official suspension of the practice.

    Ekpa’s contentious actions, including threats to disrupt the February 2023 Nigerian elections, led to his arrest in Finland. Although he was released, he has continued to advocate for Biafran secession via social media.

    The Nordic delegation, including ministers from Sweden, Iceland, Norway, and Denmark, was in Nigeria to strengthen trade ties and address regional security issues. They are continuing their visit in Ghana.

    The Finnish government emphasizes that the matter is being handled strictly by the rule of law and is not influenced by political considerations.
