Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District in Sokoto State, has been brutally killed by bandits.

This grim development follows a distressing video released by the kidnappers showing the traditional ruler pleading for government intervention.

The news was first shared on social media by Idris4Peace, who reported that the bandits, after abducting Bawa, subjected him to severe torture and dehumanization before executing him.

The video, which circulated widely, captured Bawa’s desperate plea for help, highlighting the dire situation faced by the traditional leader.

The tragic events began in July when Bawa and his driver, who is also his son, were kidnapped. According to reports, the bandits ambushed the vehicle in which they were traveling from Sokoto to Sabon Birni, the district headquarters of Sabon Birni local government area in Sokoto State.

Following the kidnapping, the bandits demanded a staggering ransom of N1 billion for the release of the victims. The release of the video showing Bawa in captivity and pleading for government assistance was a desperate measure by the kidnappers to intensify pressure on the authorities.

In the released video, Bawa, speaking in Hausa, detailed the brutal conditions under which he and his son were being held. He described the unbearable suffering they faced while in captivity, surrounded by the bandits in the forest.

His plea to the government was filled with anguish and desperation, as he urged for immediate intervention to secure their release.

The video also features one of the gunmen dictating what the victims should say, a tactic used to ensure that the message aligns with the kidnappers’ demands and to heighten the emotional impact of the plea.

Sokoto State has been facing severe security challenges due to banditry and kidnappings for ransom.
