Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has confidently expressed his intention to win the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, made this declaration while speaking at the inauguration of the NNPP Secretariat in Katsina.
During his address, he asserted that his party is prepared to take over power at the national and state levels in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking to a crowd of NNPP members and supporters in Katsina, Kwankwaso declared, “We are heading towards success in the 2027 elections.
“The NNPP will be victorious in the presidency and many other positions across the country.”
His statement came during a visit to Katsina, where he was also paying his respects to the Yar’Adua family following the passing of their matriarch, Hajiya Dada.
Kwankwaso’s confidence stems from his belief that the NNPP is gaining momentum across Nigeria.
The NNPP, a relatively new political party, has been working hard to expand its presence and influence.
Kwankwaso, who was the NNPP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has taken on a leadership role within the party and has been an outspoken advocate for its mission.
During the event, Kwankwaso took a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a major opposition party in Nigeria, declaring that it was “already dead.”
According to him, the decline of the PDP began when he and other key members left the party.
He emphasized that his exit from the PDP marked the beginning of its downfall.
“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is already dead because we were in the party,” Kwankwaso said.
“Since they have gone out of the line, we decided to check out.”
Kwankwaso’s comments reflect a growing sentiment among some Nigerian politicians and analysts that the PDP, which once dominated the Nigerian political landscape, is losing relevance.
His bold declaration of the PDP’s downfall underscores his belief that the NNPP is poised to take over as a dominant force in Nigerian politics.
In addition to expressing confidence in the NNPP’s future, Kwankwaso also had a message for Nigeria’s women and youth, urging them to be wary of political manipulation during the next election.
He warned that politicians might attempt to sway voters with gifts, such as food or money, but urged citizens not to fall for these tactics.
“I want to remind you not to allow yourselves to be deceived with spaghetti or money during the next elections,” Kwankwaso cautioned.
He called on NNPP leaders and members to remain dedicated to the party’s cause, emphasizing the importance of grassroots mobilization and commitment.
The former governor urged party members to work together in order to achieve the desired success in 2027, especially at the state level.
Kwankwaso’s party, the NNPP, is positioning itself as a political force that prioritizes the needs of ordinary Nigerians.
Armaya’u Abdulkadir, the NNPP Chairman in Katsina State, spoke during the event, emphasizing the importance of education to the party’s mission.
He noted that the NNPP’s new logo reflects the party’s commitment to education for all.
The logo, which has recently been updated, is designed to symbolize the party’s dedication to improving educational access across the country.
“There is the need for the party to embark on grassroots sensitization to inform the members on the importance of the new logo,” Abdulkadir said.
Abdulkadir further explained that the party was making every effort to educate the electorate about the new logo and what it represents.
He stated that education is a key concern for Kwankwaso and the NNPP, and the party intends to make it a central focus of its campaign in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
A two-term governor of Kano State, Kwankwaso was first elected governor in 1999 and later served again from 2011 to 2015.
His administration was known for its focus on infrastructure development, education, and youth empowerment.
He became a major political figure in Nigeria, first within the PDP and later with the All Progressives Congress (APC), before eventually founding the NNPP.
In 2022, Kwankwaso left the PDP to establish the NNPP, a move that marked the beginning of a new chapter in his political career.
The NNPP aims to challenge the dominance of Nigeria’s two largest political parties, the PDP and the APC, by offering an alternative platform for voters dissatisfied with the status quo.
