The Nigerian Army is currently investigating Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq, the former Commander of the 3 Brigade in Kano State, for serious allegations of misconduct.
These allegations include the diversion of rice palliatives meant for soldiers and the unauthorized sale of military equipment.
The general is reportedly detained in a military police guardroom in Abuja as the investigation unfolds.
According to reports, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters had allocated rice palliatives to brigades nationwide.
These supplies were intended for distribution to soldiers to alleviate their hardships.
However, General Sadiq is accused of failing to distribute these essential supplies to his troops.
Sources claim that he only provided a limited amount of rice, specifically 5kg bags, to his men.
The remaining stock of rice is said to have been sold for personal gain.
Additionally, it is alleged that General Sadiq stole various military equipment, including a MIKANO heavy-duty generator, from the Military Training Camp in Falgore, Kano.
He reportedly sold these items to scrap metal dealers.
A statement issued by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, on Wednesday, confirmed that General Sadiq has been relieved of his command.
The decision was made to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.
“The Nigerian Army has been inundated with media reports regarding the immediate past Commander 3 Brigade Kano, Brigadier General MA Sadiq,” Nwachukwu stated.
“He is currently undergoing military investigation into administrative discrepancies while he was Commander 3 Brigade.”
This statement reflects the Army’s commitment to accountability and integrity within its ranks.
Nwachukwu stated, “The Nigerian Army being a self-regulatory institution founded on the bedrock of discipline, justice, and accountability, has zero tolerance for indiscipline.”
He assured both the public and Army personnel that all allegations would be thoroughly investigated.
“Appropriate administrative action will be taken,” he added.
The Army’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency has been reiterated.
As a result of these serious allegations, Brigadier General A.M. Tukur has been appointed as the new commander of the 3 Brigade in Kano.
Tukur previously served as the Registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy.
