In a significant development, the Nigerian House of Representatives has passed a bill that will allow officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to carry firearms as part of their duties.
The bill aims to establish a special armed squad within the FRSC and was sponsored by Rep. Abiodun Derin Adesida and Rep. Olaide Lateef Muhammed.

Rep. Muhammad stated, “We must leverage technology to enhance our road safety efforts.
The use of data analytics can significantly improve our enforcement strategies.”
The motion also urged the FRSC to evaluate the effectiveness of its enforcement strategies.
It aims to determine whether technologically-assisted methods can reduce traffic violations and improve overall safety on the roads.
