Mujahid Asari Dokubo, former President of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, has harshly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to dissolve the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
Dokubo described the action as a “total betrayal” of the Niger Delta people.
Speaking to ARISE News on Tuesday, he expressed deep disappointment in the move.
“This decision is a betrayal of the people of the Niger Delta,” Dokubo asserted.
Dokubo emphasized that this decision reflects a culture of neglect toward the Niger Delta in national development.
“There has been this culture in Nigeria of trying to shortchange the people of the Niger Delta,” he said.
He further claimed that the government has historically robbed the region of its rightful gains.
He is a well-known activist and former militant leader who has long fought for Niger Delta rights.
“The dissolution of the ministry undermines federal commitments to our region,” he argued.
He pointed out that the Niger Delta has faced significant challenges due to extensive oil exploration.
These challenges include environmental degradation and a lack of development.
Dokubo called for increased attention and resources for the Niger Delta, stressing that the region deserves better support.
“The people of the Niger Delta have suffered for too long,” he stated.
