Baltasar Engonga, a high-ranking official in Equatorial Guinea, has found himself at the center of an explosive scandal.
Engonga, 54, who serves as the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), was arrested after authorities uncovered a stash of over 400 sextapes in his possession.
These tapes reportedly feature intimate encounters between Engonga and the wives of some of the nation’s most powerful men.
Sources reveal that the recordings were discovered during an unannounced search of Engonga’s office and home.
Officials allegedly found numerous CDs containing videos that detail Engonga’s relations with high-profile women, including the sister of the President, the wife of the Director General of Police, and spouses of approximately 20 ministers.
Local media, Ahora EG, reports that these tapes may have been created with the consent of the women involved.
However, the recent leak of these tapes onto social media has ignited a firestorm of controversy.
In one of the videos, Engonga, who is also known by the nickname “Bello,” is reportedly seen with a woman in his office, with the National Flag of Equatorial Guinea visible in the background.
The scandal, unprecedented in Equatorial Guinea’s history, has prompted the government to take swift action.
A statement released by the government confirms that officials directly implicated in similar acts will face immediate suspension.
Vice President Nguema Mangue has strongly condemned the actions of Engonga, emphasizing the government’s commitment to public ethics.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Mangue stated, “Ethics and respect are fundamental in our administration. Irresponsible attitudes that put citizen trust at risk will not be allowed.”
He assured citizens that the government would uphold the Code of Conduct and the Public Ethics Law.
Mangue’s statement has further fueled the public’s demand for transparency and accountability from top officials.
Amid the scandal, Equatorial Guinea’s Attorney General, Nzang Nguema, has highlighted the potential health risks arising from Engonga’s actions.
Speaking about the tapes, Nguema stated that the law only considers consensual relations non-criminal when there is no evidence of coercion or violence.
“Though the images suggest consensual acts, we must recognize the potential public health implications,” Nguema warned.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and warned that intimate relations of this kind increase the risk of contagious diseases.
Nguema added, “The possibility of disease transmission affects not only those involved but their partners and the community at large.”
He further advised victims of sexual abuse or assault to report incidents, stressing the importance of a safe environment where such cases can be addressed.
The shocking footage has already begun circulating on social media, causing uproar across the nation.
Many citizens have expressed disbelief at Engonga’s actions, with videos reportedly showing him engaged in unprotected sex with various women, including married women and influential singles.
Some scenes allegedly take place in hotel rooms, private residences, and even within Engonga’s office at the Ministry of Finance.
One local resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, voiced the anger felt by many: “This man has betrayed his position and his country. He should be held accountable for his disgraceful actions.”
In response to the revelations, the government has immediately suspended any officials found to have engaged in sexual activities within ministry offices.
The administration stressed its “zero tolerance” policy toward conduct that tarnishes the nation’s image and compromises public service integrity.
Officials stated, “With these new measures, the government hopes to create a precedent for expected conduct among public servants.”
