Elon Musk’s daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, has announced her decision to leave the United States following Donald Trump’s re-election as President.
The 20-year-old, who cut ties with Musk in 2022, voiced her opposition to Trump’s policies, particularly those affecting LGBTQ+ rights.
In a post on Threads, Wilson explained that Trump’s return to office has strengthened her resolve to leave the country.
“I’ve thought this for a while, but yesterday confirmed it for me. I don’t see my future being in the United States,” she wrote.
Her statement quickly gained attention, drawing both support and criticism online.
Wilson’s decision stems not only from her disapproval of Trump’s policies but also from her desire to distance herself from a nation she feels is increasingly hostile to her beliefs.
“Even if he’s only in office for four years, even if the anti-trans regulations magically don’t happen, the people who willingly voted this in are not going anywhere anytime soon,” she added.
Wilson has been vocal about her stance on LGBTQ+ rights, a position she has publicly linked to her estranged relationship with Musk.
In 2022, she legally changed her name and gender, a move she said was partly intended to sever ties with her billionaire father.
The rift between Wilson and Musk has been widely reported, with Wilson accusing Musk of being absent and unsupportive of her transition.
For Musk, the relationship breakdown is tied to ideological issues he attributes to “neo-Marxist” influences in elite education.
In conversations with his biographer, Walter Isaacson, Musk cited his daughter’s education at the Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences in Santa Monica, which he claims “infected” her with a “woke mind virus.”
“She went beyond socialism to being a full communist and thinking that anyone rich is evil,” Musk reportedly told Isaacson.
Musk, one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, is a known supporter of Trump and has a net worth estimated at $285.6 billion.
The ideological divide between Musk and Wilson has highlighted the ongoing cultural and political clashes in American society.
