In a tragic and disturbing event, a 19-year-old man, Aliyu Yaro, has been arrested in Adamawa State for allegedly killing his three-day-old baby boy. The incident occurred in Mubi, a town in northern Adamawa, where Yaro reportedly murdered the infant after a series of troubling events.

According to the police, the crime took place on November 7, 2024, when Aliyu Yaro visited the home of his girlfriend, Safiya, who had just given birth to their child. Safiya had been calling Yaro repeatedly, urging him to take responsibility for the baby. However, Yaro’s response was shocking.

After receiving multiple calls from Safiya, Yaro went to her house late at night. He reportedly sent Safiya on an errand, asking her to fetch water while he took the baby. In a sinister twist, he did not return with the infant. By the time Safiya returned, she discovered that her baby was missing.

“I left him in my room with the baby to buy water,” Safiya explained. “When I came back, he was gone with the baby. I reported it to the police immediately.”

Police swiftly responded to the report and launched an investigation. They tracked down Yaro, who, during questioning, admitted to killing his own child. Yaro confessed that after taking the baby from Safiya’s house, he fed the infant sour milk, which led to the baby’s death by the next day.

In a chilling statement, Yaro revealed that he had buried the baby’s body in a shallow grave around 9:00 p.m. in the Girpata area of Mubi. He took the police to the burial site, where the body was exhumed.

“I carried the baby, and I buried it in the night,” Yaro confessed to the police. “I didn’t want to take responsibility for the child. It was easier to end his life than deal with the pressure from Safiya.”

The shocking crime has left the community in disbelief, with many struggling to understand the young father’s actions. Safiya, devastated by the loss, expressed her frustration, stating that she had repeatedly asked Yaro to help provide for the baby but was met with neglect and indifference.

“I’ve been complaining about how he didn’t care for the baby,” Safiya said. “He never helped with the baby’s needs, and I even threatened to report him to the authorities. I never imagined he would do something like this.”

The Adamawa State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Morris Dankombo, has expressed deep concern over the crime. The police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that the case was being handled with utmost seriousness.

“The suspect has been arrested, and we have begun a thorough investigation into the matter,” Nguroje said. “The case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further probe and prosecution.”

“This is a tragic and heart-wrenching incident,” said Commissioner Dankombo. “We are committed to ensuring justice is served for the innocent life lost in this senseless act.”

The case has left many in the community struggling to come to terms with the unimaginable nature of the crime. For Safiya, the pain of losing her baby is compounded by the betrayal of someone she trusted.

“I never expected this from him,” she lamented. “He was supposed to be the father, the one who cared for our child. Now, my baby is gone, and I can’t bring him back.”

The arrest of Aliyu Yaro has sparked discussions about the responsibilities of young parents and the importance of seeking help when faced with the challenges of parenthood. In a world where young people often face overwhelming pressures, the consequences of such actions are all too real and irreversible.
