President Bola Tinubu has affirmed that his administration is pulling Nigeria back from the edge of economic collapse, declaring a new era of growth and prosperity for the nation.
Speaking at the inauguration of Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and his Deputy, Dennis Idahosa, in Benin City, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, highlighted the urgent reforms his administration has initiated to rebuild the economy.
“When we took office, we knew the challenges that lay ahead,” Tinubu stated. “Nigeria needed serious fiscal and monetary reforms to achieve stability, and we are committed to laying a strong foundation for prosperity.”
Tinubu’s administration, he said, has focused on implementing measures to revive the economy, tackle inflation, and create a more stable environment for growth.
The President expressed pride in Edo State for choosing leaders “who understand the people’s needs” and are ready to make impactful changes. He emphasized that these leaders are part of a broader vision for Nigeria’s future, a vision built on “integrity and service.”
He continued, “Edo State has elected men who will lead the charge forward. Leaders who understand the importance of schools, hospitals, and roads that bring hope to every community.”
Tinubu described Nigeria as a “house divided,” stressing the need for unity. “The APC’s commitment to people-beneficial governance assures Nigerians that we are ready to lead,” he said. “A leader must overcome obstacles and deliver on promises. The election is over, and any form of discord or divisive mentality must be dismantled.”
The President’s message was clear: Nigeria is stepping into a new era, one focused on development and driven by leaders who value the people’s trust. He assured Nigerians that the “brink of economic collapse” is now behind them, and the country is moving towards stability.
“This atmosphere of joy here today resonates with the voice of the people,” Tinubu remarked. “It is a call for a vibrant tomorrow, an embodiment of democracy in action.”
Tinubu praised Edo’s leaders as symbols of the state’s aspirations, declaring the inauguration of Governor Okpebholo and Deputy Idahosa as a collective victory. “This is not just the success of one man but of the entire state,” he said. “The people of Edo have chosen leaders who reflect their will and desire for change.”
He further noted that Nigeria, now over 25 years into its democratic journey, has reached a significant milestone. “Today’s inauguration testifies to the power of the people, who have shown that no one can hold back their collective will forever,” he said.
Reflecting on the journey so far, Tinubu acknowledged that leadership comes with its own set of burdens. “It is said that a leader inherits the problems of the past,” he observed. “But what defines a true leader is their courage to confront these issues head-on.”
He continued, “This moment is daunting, but it’s also the best time to serve. The people of Edo demand true leadership, and they’ve placed their trust in Governor Okpebholo and Deputy Governor Idahosa.”
Tinubu promised that the new administration in Edo would focus on jobs, accessible education, and infrastructure development. He said that Okpebholo’s leadership would bring these ambitions to life, creating a state where opportunities abound.
