A heated exchange has erupted between activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The controversy began when Wike accused Adeyanju of staging protests against him due to a failed political ambition.
In response, Adeyanju launched a scathing attack on Wike, calling him a “looter” and accusing him of abusing public resources.
Wike’s Accusation
During a recent press conference, Wike claimed that Adeyanju had personal motives behind his protests.
He alleged that Adeyanju was upset because Wike did not support his bid to become the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Publicity Secretary.
Wike’s comments sparked widespread reactions, with many waiting for Adeyanju’s response.
Adeyanju Fires Back
Adeyanju wasted no time in addressing Wike’s claims.
In a fiery statement, he accused the FCT Minister of decades of corruption and greed.
“This man has never worked anywhere. His only address is looting public resources and public patrimony,” Adeyanju said.
He alleged that Wike was using his position to seize land in Abuja, including parks, and distributing them to his allies.
“For close to three decades, I have, at the personal expense of my life, been active in criticizing the government,” Adeyanju continued.
He referenced his history of activism, including being arrested multiple times during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“When Wike was having a field day looting Rivers’ money, I was fighting for the people,” he added.
Personal Insults and Sarcasm
Adeyanju also mocked Wike’s recent attempt to position himself as an elder statesman.
“I don’t know where he got this idea that he’s now an elder statesman for making noise all over the place,” Adeyanju quipped.
Adeyanju who is 45-years-old went further, comparing Wike’s age to his own, stating that Wike is only 11 years older but looks far older than many Nigerian leaders.
“Maybe it’s because he’s not looking like he’s older than Tinubu and Buhari combined. That’s why he now feels like an old man. He’s an ancient of days,” Adeyanju said sarcastically.
Allegations of Betrayal
Adeyanju also accused Wike of being untrustworthy and manipulative.
He claimed Wike had promised to support him politically but later betrayed him.
“No matter what you do for Wike, he will betray you,” Adeyanju said, likening Wike’s behavior to that of controversial singer Portable.
“At least, when you do something with Portable, he will not betray you. Wike will,” he added.
Judiciary Interference Claims
Adeyanju further alleged that Wike played a role in the removal of a former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
He claimed Wike often boasted about having influence over the judiciary, mentioning names and undermining judicial independence.
“Wike is one of the reasons allegedly why the former CJN was removed from office,” Adeyanju alleged.
