Galatasaray’s technical director, Okan Buruk, has confirmed the existence of a transfer clause in Victor Osimhen’s loan agreement with Napoli that could allow the Nigerian striker to move to another club during the upcoming January transfer window.
The news has sent shockwaves through the football world, as Galatasaray fans and European football clubs eagerly anticipate the next move in Osimhen’s career.
In an interview with Galatasaray’s official website, Buruk addressed a range of topics concerning the Turkish champions, including Osimhen’s future. While the coach expressed confidence in Osimhen’s commitment to the team, he did not shy away from acknowledging the potential for the striker to leave come January.
“There is a clause there, but it doesn’t matter; he said he will stay,” Buruk said, confirming the transfer clause that could see Osimhen depart in the winter transfer window. “The important thing is the player. The player decides. That’s why Osimhen says he will stay here. He said the same thing when he came.”
The revelation of this clause comes as no surprise to many, as Osimhen has been the subject of transfer speculation for months. The Nigerian forward has been one of Europe’s hottest properties, with top clubs across the continent keeping an eye on his situation at Galatasaray.
Despite the uncertainty, Buruk seemed optimistic about the player’s intentions. He emphasized that Osimhen had expressed his desire to stay with Galatasaray until the end of the season. However, the possibility of a January transfer remains a real concern for the Turkish club.
Buruk elaborated on the early stages of negotiations that led to Osimhen’s arrival in Istanbul. “We went to Milan. I go there when I have permission. I lived there for three years. I know the place; it’s food and drink,” he recalled. “We didn’t talk about football. We just sat there and had dinner. We met for two days.”
The Galatasaray coach also revealed that the initial transfer discussions had been difficult, with Osimhen’s move to the Turkish club seeming unlikely at first. Buruk explained, “Gardi told me there was such and such a thing about Osimhen. It didn’t seem realistic at first.”
However, things began to change after an important match against Adana Demirspor. “Then there was our Adana Demirspor match. We had a video call at the airport after the match. We evaluated it with the transfer committee. We took it to the president. We got the president’s approval. Then the transfer took place.”
Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray became a reality on the final day of the summer transfer window, following failed negotiations with Chelsea and Al Ahly. The striker has since made a significant impact in Istanbul, quickly establishing himself as a key player for the club. With eight goals and four assists in nine appearances across all competitions, Osimhen has proven to be a valuable addition to the team.
Despite his strong start, the looming January transfer window raises questions about the future of the 25-year-old striker. While Buruk insists that Osimhen is determined to stay with the club, the existence of the clause in his loan agreement has left the door open for potential suitors.
Osimhen’s recent form has made him one of the most sought-after players in Europe, and his impressive performances in Turkey have only added fuel to the fire. Several top clubs, including Premier League giants and top Serie A teams, are believed to be closely monitoring his situation.
Galatasaray fans are understandably anxious about the possibility of losing their star striker midway through the season. While Buruk is hopeful that Osimhen will fulfill his commitment to the club, the uncertainty surrounding the January transfer window has created a sense of anticipation in Istanbul.
As the winter window approaches, all eyes will be on Osimhen and his decision regarding his future. The Nigerian striker has made it clear that he intends to stay with Galatasaray for the remainder of the season, but the presence of the transfer clause means that anything can happen in January.
