Popular Nigerian saxophonist and De Naija Spirit Talent Hunt star, Sampson Udo, popularly known as KingSax, has been arrested on allegations of raping two sisters.
The arrest comes after weeks of accusations circulating online and pressure from activists and legal representatives.
The shocking incident began on October 6, when one of the victims, 27-year-old Destiny Ameh, invited Udo to perform at an event she organized at Elegushi Beach in Lagos.
According to reports from the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), Udo allegedly attacked Destiny in his car after the event.
Grace Ameh, Destiny’s younger sister, narrated the ordeal to the FIJ, revealing how Udo locked the car doors, overpowered Destiny, and sexually assaulted her.
“Destiny was too stunned to report the incident immediately,” Grace said. “She only opened up to me two weeks later.”
Grace recounted how she confronted Udo, who initially claimed the encounter was consensual. When questioned about the victim’s distress, Udo allegedly went silent and ended the call.
Grace turned to social media to air her grievances, sparking public outrage and calls for justice.
In response, Udo denied the allegations, claiming they were part of an effort to tarnish his reputation.
“I am innocent,” Udo wrote in a statement on his social media handles. “This publication was made to malign and ridicule my fast-growing brand.”
The case took a controversial turn when Grace was allegedly detained by the Lagos State Police Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
Grace claimed she was mocked by officers, with one saying, “Does this fresh boy look like someone who can rape anybody?”
She further alleged that Udo’s lawyer and the police demanded N15 million in exchange for dropping the case.
“I was asked to retract my statement and publish an apology in two national newspapers,” Grace said.
While trying to resolve the legal dispute, Grace claimed Udo attempted to sexually assault her as well.
“He invited me to a restaurant, ordered alcohol, and later demanded my body in exchange for dropping the lawsuit,” Grace narrated.
When she refused, Udo allegedly threatened court action and continued harassing her over the phone.
In a devastating twist, Grace alleged that Udo eventually raped her during a later meeting.
“He pounced on me, ripped my gown apart, and raped me,” she said.
The case gained momentum when Grace recorded a phone call with Udo, allegedly capturing his attempts to manipulate and intimidate her.
An Uber driver who witnessed the harassment also offered to stand as a witness in the case.
Despite the severity of the allegations, the FIJ has yet to release the recordings, citing their disturbing content.
Since Udo’s arrest by SCID on Thursday morning, activists and legal representatives have stepped in to monitor the case.
Serah Ibrahim, a prominent activist, revealed that Udo’s lawyer and girlfriend have been pushing for an out-of-court settlement.
“We are closely following this case to ensure justice for Grace and Destiny,” Ibrahim stated.
The police have faced backlash over their handling of the case, with allegations of bias and intimidation tactics against the victims.
Grace’s lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, condemned the police’s demands for monetary settlements, emphasizing the need for accountability.
As of now, Udo remains in custody, awaiting formal charges.
