UNESCO, in partnership with Infinix, has embarked on an ambitious journey to empower 10,000 Nigerian students with cutting-edge skills in artificial intelligence and robotics.
The first milestone of this groundbreaking initiative unfolded at the University of Ibadan (UI).
At least 30 students from different departments at UI recently completed the UNESCO-Infinix 3D AI and Robotics Training CogLabs Workshop.
This training, held at the Infinix ICT Resource Centre on campus, is part of a larger mission to equip Nigerian youths with essential STEM skills.
The workshop is not just about learning—it’s about sharing knowledge.
Out of the participants, 20 students will be selected and equipped with advanced tools to train others in their communities.
Olumide Adeloju, the community manager of Infinix X Club, described the initiative as a “train the trainers” program.
“This is more than a workshop,” Adeloju said.
“We are building a generation of tech-savvy leaders who will pass their knowledge to thousands of others across Nigeria.”
Tackling Real-Life Problems
The focus of the training is on using AI, robotics, and machine learning to solve real-world challenges in Nigeria.
The partnership with UNESCO, Infinix, and even tech giant Google is aimed at fostering innovation in areas like education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Oluwayemisi Ode, Infinix Nigeria’s Public Relations Manager, urged the participants to seize the opportunity.
“The future is here,” Ode said.
“With tools like the Infinix ICT Centre and the CogLabs app, you can create AI-powered solutions to improve lives.”
A Historic First
UI has made history as the first university in Nigeria to host this transformative event.
The workshop is part of a larger UNESCO initiative that has already made waves in Kenya, where a similar event took place earlier this year.
Nigeria is now joining the global movement to prepare young minds for the digital economy.
Inspiring the Next Generation
The students who participated in the workshop expressed their excitement and optimism.
“This training has opened my eyes to the possibilities of AI and robotics,” said a UI student who attended the event.
“I never imagined I could learn so much in just a few days.”
The participants are not only gaining skills but also becoming ambassadors for STEM education in their communities.
By training others, they are creating a ripple effect that could transform the technological landscape of Nigeria.
The goal of training 10,000 students is a massive undertaking, but the partnership between UNESCO and Infinix shows that it is achievable.
By investing in education and technology, these organizations are helping Nigeria prepare for a future where AI and robotics play a central role.
