Noticeably absent from the list is Nigeria’s football icon, Asisat Oshoala.

This marks the first time in several years that Oshoala, a five-time winner of the award, has not been nominated.

Her exclusion underscores the growing competition and depth of talent in African women’s football.

While Oshoala’s omission may have surprised many, Nigeria’s women’s football remains well-represented.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nadozie and forward Rasheedat Ajibade have made the shortlist, reflecting the strength of Nigeria’s female athletes.

Nadozie, known for her commanding presence in goal, has been instrumental in Nigeria’s successes on the international stage.

Ajibade, on the other hand, continues to dazzle fans with her speed and scoring ability.

As Africa gears up for the AFCON in Morocco, attention also turns to the CAF awards, which will recognize outstanding achievements in African football.

Both events highlight the growth and passion for football on the continent.

From the male-dominated AFCON battles to the celebration of female footballers, these occasions symbolize the progress and unity that football brings to Africa.
