Veteran politician and former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has issued a fiery call to action, urging Nigerians to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
At a press conference in Lagos to mark his 79th birthday, George declared that the hardship under APC’s leadership has made Nigerians eager to “kick them out of Aso Rock.”
He criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for what he described as the mismanagement of the economy, leaving citizens in despair.
“Nigerians Are Suffering”
George did not mince words as he described the economic struggles facing Nigerians.
“With the suffering in the land and the mismanagement of the economy, Nigerians are waiting for us in 2027 to kick APC out of Aso Rock,” he said.
He accused APC of tightening a “vicious grip” on Nigeria, warning that PDP must step up as the only viable alternative to rescue the country.
“PDP Is at a Crossroads”
While calling for the ruling party’s removal, George acknowledged that PDP itself is not without its own problems.
“All is not well with our party,” he lamented.
According to George, PDP is “at the precipice of a dangerous looming crisis” due to unresolved internal disputes and the selfish ambitions of some members.
He said party leaders must urgently address these issues to prevent the PDP from becoming irrelevant by 2027.
“Chameleonic Characters”
George expressed frustration with members of PDP whom he described as working secretly for APC while pretending to be loyal to PDP.
“They have one leg in PDP and another leg in APC. Such chameleonic characters are the ones trying to dictate the direction of this party,” he said.
He insisted that these individuals must be stopped immediately to prevent further damage to the party’s credibility.
“A Call for Unity”
George emphasized that unity is the only path to reclaiming power from APC.
“Unless we are united, with equity, fairness, and justice guiding our political decisions, this party will be heading for disaster in 2027,” he warned.
He called on party leaders across Nigeria to use the upcoming PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on November 28 to mend fences and rebuild trust.
“We must bury our differences and put on our thinking caps,” he said, urging members to prioritize the general interest of the party over personal ambitions.
“Rallying the Elders”
George also urged prominent PDP elders, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, and other party stalwarts, to step in and guide the party through its challenges.
“The founding fathers of our party, who have gone to the world beyond, must be crying in their graves,” he said.
He tasked PDP’s Board of Trustees Chairman to convene a meeting of these elders before the NEC meeting to deliberate on the party’s future.
“2027: A Critical Test for PDP”
For George, the 2027 general elections represent a golden opportunity for PDP to prove itself as the party capable of saving Nigeria.
He stressed that party leaders must ensure a transparent and fair process leading up to the elections to avoid a “self-destructive journey.”
“We cannot afford to fail or disappoint Nigerians who are looking up to us,” he said.
“A Warning to Wike”
George also weighed in on the ongoing feud in Rivers State between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
He urged Wike to “cool off immediately” and called on PDP leaders to treat Governor Fubara with respect and not like an outcast.
“How we collectively address these issues will determine the fate of our party in the months and years to come,” he said.
“A Message of Hope for PDP”
Despite the internal and external challenges facing the party, George remains optimistic about PDP’s ability to return to power.
“We must not allow anyone to destroy our party because PDP is the only true national party,” he declared.
He appealed to members to rise above divisive tendencies, warning that unity is non-negotiable if the party hopes to win back the Presidential Villa in 2027.
“Lagos Event Draws Party Faithful”
The event was attended by prominent PDP members, including the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
The gathering served as both a celebration of George’s 79th birthday and a platform for discussing the party’s future.
As the PDP prepares for its NEC meeting, all eyes are on the party’s leaders to see whether they can overcome their differences and deliver the change that Nigerians are hoping for in 2027.
