The Nigerian government has set an ambitious target to increase crude oil production to 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) at the new Abigail Joseph Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility in Bayelsa State.

The facility is operated by the NNPCL-First E&P Joint Venture on OML 83/85 and has already made significant strides in its production capabilities.

The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, who recently inspected the offshore facility.

The facility is on track to reach 70,000 bpd in the near term, with plans to scale up to 100,000 bpd in the coming years.

“It is impressive to see such commitment from NNPCL and First E&P, especially as First E&P pursues a 23-well drilling campaign to sustain and enhance output,” Senator Lokpobiri said during his visit.

“This is a vital step toward achieving our national production targets,” he added.

    A Step Toward National Goals

The ambitious target of 100,000 bpd at the Abigail Joseph FPSO is part of the Nigerian government’s broader efforts to increase the country’s crude oil production and ensure it meets both domestic and international demand.

The facility’s expansion will play a crucial role in supporting Nigeria’s oil production goals, which are vital to the country’s economy.

The government has been focusing on increasing production capacity at key facilities, with this new project being one of the most promising in the region.

The Managing Director and CEO of First E&P Limited, Ademola Adeyemi-Bero, shared his confidence in achieving the 100,000 bpd target in record time.

“We are fully committed to meeting and surpassing our current production goals,” he said.
