Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has reassured Nigerians of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) unity, despite ongoing internal disputes and challenges facing the party. Mohammed, who serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to providing good governance while emphasizing that the PDP remains “indivisible.”

The Governor made these remarks during a strategic meeting of PDP governors held in Jos, Plateau State, on Friday, where party leaders came together to discuss key issues facing the party and the nation.

“We are here on the Plateau, and Governor Mutfwang has shown us that Plateau is indeed a melting pot where everyone is welcome. The PDP remains an indivisible party. Despite minor hiccups, we are united with all organs and leaders of the party. We will continue to work together to provide Nigerians with opportunities for better governance,” Mohammed said.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State also echoed similar sentiments, reassuring the public that PDP governors and party leaders were working diligently to rebuild confidence and provide a viable alternative to the current administration.

“Even though this is primarily a meeting of governors, it is gratifying to see party leaders and stakeholders from various states filling this room to support the governors as we strategize to ensure not only the stability of our party but also its ability to continue providing hope to Nigerians,” Mutfwang said.

PDP’s Commitment to Rebuilding Trust

Mutfwang, who hosted the meeting, reflected on Plateau’s historical importance to the PDP. He recalled that the state was home to the party’s first convention to elect the inaugural President of the Fourth Republic and produced the PDP’s first national chairman. He proudly referred to Plateau as the “home of the PDP.”

In his remarks, Mutfwang also reflected on the progress his administration has made in Plateau State, highlighting the restoration of peace and trust after years of governance challenges. He noted that after what he described as “miserable leadership” by the opposition, the people of Plateau had welcomed the PDP back with open arms.

“By the grace of God, after years of miserable leadership by the opposition on the Plateau, the people have welcomed their party back. The PDP and I are determined to improve the lives of our people and fulfill the party’s mandate of social justice and empowerment,” Mutfwang added.

Reforming and Strengthening the PDP

The gathering was not only a show of unity but also a commitment to reform and rebuild the PDP. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, assured party members that the PDP governors were working towards the party’s restoration and reformation.

“We are here today to ensure the PDP returns to its former glory as the party of choice for Nigerians. Our goal is to restore the PDP’s leadership role in the country and ensure that it delivers on its promises to the people,” Makinde said.

The meeting in Jos saw the attendance of other prominent figures within the party, including Governors Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Kefas Agbu (Taraba), and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), as well as Deputy Governors from Bayelsa, Enugu, and Plateau States. PDP Acting National Chairman Illiya Damagum and other key party figures, such as former Governors Jonah Jang (Plateau) and Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna), were also present.
