In a move aimed at easing the burden of travel during the festive season, Aero Contractors, one of Nigeria’s leading airlines, has announced a fare reduction for all domestic routes.
The airline, which currently charges N110,000 for a one-way trip on local routes, has pegged the new Yuletide fare at N80,000.
This reduction will last until January 2025, offering passengers some relief during the holiday period, which is traditionally a peak travel season.
“A Gesture to Give Back to Nigerians”
Aero Contractors’ Managing Director, Captain Ado Sanusi, made the announcement in Lagos on Tuesday, expressing the airline’s commitment to easing the financial strain on passengers.
“We know what the people are going through due to the economic hardship and the high prices of tickets,” Sanusi said.
He emphasized that the fare reduction is part of the company’s efforts to give back to its customers, especially during the Christmas season, which is marked by generosity and goodwill.
“We are in the spirit of giving, which Christmas embodies. These prices are designed to allow Nigerians to travel to all destinations without paying too much,” he added.
A Christmas Initiative for Nigerians
Sanusi noted that the fare cut is a strategic move by Aero Contractors to support Nigerians in the face of ongoing economic challenges.
“Aero Contractors is deeply committed to understanding its customers,” he said, explaining that the initiative is part of the company’s long-standing efforts to maintain a connection with the public.
“The idea is to make travel more affordable, especially at a time when many are struggling due to rising costs of living,” he added.
Looking Ahead: More Changes at Aero Contractors
While the fare reduction is the main highlight of the announcement, Sanusi also shared other plans for Aero Contractors.
The airline is preparing for an influx of funds and is actively seeking new investors to further strengthen its operations.
Sanusi remarked that the airline is looking to expand and improve its services to meet the growing demand for air travel in Nigeria.
“We are not only focused on reducing fares. We are also looking at ways to strengthen our operations by bringing in new investors and increasing our fleet,” he said.
Aero Contractors Resumes Full Operations
Aero Contractors, which had faced financial challenges in the past, has recently been rebuilding its operations.
The airline resumed full operations after a brief period of reduced services and has added two Airbus A320 aircraft to its fleet.
This move comes as part of the airline’s efforts to improve its capacity and offer more options for travelers, especially during the busy holiday season.
Impact of the Fare Reduction
The fare reduction to N80,000 is expected to make a significant difference for many Nigerians planning to travel home for the holidays.
Aviation experts believe that this initiative will provide much-needed relief to passengers, especially given the current high cost of living.
“It’s a welcome move,” said an aviation analyst based in Lagos. “Many people are finding it hard to afford the usual high fares, especially for long-distance flights. This move will ease the strain for many Nigerian families looking to travel home for the festive period.”
The announcement has been met with positive reactions from passengers and travel enthusiasts.
“Thank you to Aero Contractors for listening to the people. This is the kind of gesture that will make many people happy this Christmas,” said one social media user.
Others have also expressed their gratitude, hoping that the airline’s initiative will inspire other airlines to follow suit.
