Ghana Poll: PDP Predicts Defeat for APC in 2027

    Share

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the victory of Ghana’s opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the country’s presidential election is a warning to Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Monday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the success of John Mahama in Ghana’s election signals a growing wave of opposition power across West Africa.

Ologunagba congratulated the people of Ghana for standing firm in defense of democracy and ensuring that their will triumphed over misrule.

Former President John Mahama of Ghana defeated the incumbent Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, in a hotly contested election that has sent ripples through Nigeria’s political landscape.

“The Peoples Democratic Party congratulates the people of Ghana for their resilience in defending democracy,” Ologunagba said.

He added, “The verdict of the people of Ghana is a signal to the APC that its days in office are numbered. Just like in Ghana, the power of the people in Nigeria will surely prevail in 2027.”

The PDP took the opportunity to lash out at the APC, accusing the ruling party of leading Nigeria into economic turmoil.

In its statement, the PDP cited rising inflation, a plunging naira, and widespread unemployment as evidence of the APC’s failure.

“Life has become unbearable under the APC,” Ologunagba said.

He lamented the exodus of multinational companies from Nigeria and the desperation of Nigerian youths who, he claimed, are “resorting to suicide or embarking on dangerous journeys abroad” in search of better opportunities.

The PDP described the APC’s rule as oppressive, insensitive, and out of touch with the realities of ordinary Nigerians.

The statement also accused the ruling party of plunging the nation into hardship, with Ologunagba urging citizens to remember the “golden years” of PDP governance.

“Nigerians now recall with nostalgia the era of PDP in government as their only hope for survival and the fulfilment of their dreams,” he said.

The PDP also issued a strong message to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies, urging them to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s future elections.

Ologunagba warned that Nigerians would not tolerate a repeat of what he described as the “manipulation and perversion” of the electoral process during the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections.

“INEC must ensure that only the will of the people prevails in 2027,” the PDP spokesman declared.

The party’s statement reflects growing concerns among opposition forces in Nigeria about the fairness of the electoral process.

    Opposition Eyes 2027 “Granite Alliance”

In the wake of Ghana’s election results, Nigerian opposition parties are reportedly exploring the idea of forming a unified front to challenge the APC in 2027.

This so-called “granite alliance” aims to replicate the coalition-building strategy that propelled Ghana’s NDC to victory.

Political analysts have noted similarities between the challenges faced by opposition parties in both countries, including allegations of economic mismanagement and declining public trust in ruling parties.

Ologunagba expressed confidence that the opposition would triumph in Nigeria’s next general election, stating that the PDP remains committed to restoring good governance, security, and economic stability.

“Just as the people of Ghana have done, Nigerians will rise to reclaim their nation from the grip of misrule,” he said.

The PDP’s optimism comes as public dissatisfaction with the APC continues to mount, fueled by widespread hardship and concerns over the government’s ability to address pressing national issues.
