Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State – The Ekiti State Police Command has announced a one-day shooting range exercise scheduled for Saturday.
The exercise will take place at the quarry site opposite the police headquarters, located along Old Iyin Road, Ado-Ekiti.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, the event will run from 6:00 a.m. to noon.
Abutu assured residents, farmers, and passersby in the area not to panic as a result of the gunshots expected during the exercise.
However, the spokesperson emphasized that people should avoid the vicinity to prevent unnecessary distress or risk of injury from stray bullets.
Abutu also called on the public to refrain from any activities near the shooting range site until the exercise concludes.
In his statement, Abutu reiterated the commitment of the Commissioner of Police, Akinwale Adeniran, to ensuring the safety and security of all lives and property in the state.
He appealed to residents to cooperate fully with the police and remain law-abiding during the exercise.
The announcement comes as part of the police’s ongoing efforts to maintain readiness and improve the operational capabilities of law enforcement officers in Ekiti.
The police have been engaging in regular drills and exercises to sharpen their skills and ensure effective response to security challenges.
The shooting range exercise is expected to enhance the ability of police officers to handle firearms responsibly while also reinforcing their preparedness in handling high-stakes situations.
While gunshots may create concerns, the police spokesperson urged the public to understand that such exercises are routine training procedures aimed at improving the overall effectiveness of law enforcement.
Residents have been reassured that their safety remains a top priority. The police stressed the importance of community cooperation, urging the public to report any suspicious activity and work with the authorities to ensure peace and order.
Public awareness of such exercises is crucial to avoid unnecessary panic and confusion, especially in urban areas like Ado-Ekiti, where many people live and work.
The police further emphasized that such drills are not unusual, as law enforcement agencies frequently conduct training exercises to maintain their readiness and efficiency.
As Ekiti continues to prioritize security, citizens are reminded that such proactive steps by the police contribute to a safer environment for everyone.
Residents are encouraged to report any concerns or disturbances related to the exercise to the police, so that immediate actions can be taken if necessary.
With this exercise, the Ekiti State Police Command hopes to build greater trust with the community while ensuring that its officers are adequately prepared to handle real-life security challenges.
As Saturday’s event draws closer, Ekiti residents are urged to remain calm and understand that the police are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of all.
In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on the need for police forces across Nigeria to improve their training, especially in handling firearms. The exercise in Ekiti is part of broader efforts by police authorities to ensure that officers are equipped with the skills required to manage complex security situations.
