Opposition Coalition Alleges Plot to Silence Spokesman

    Share

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has sounded an alarm, claiming a secret plot is underway to arrest its spokesman, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere.

At a dramatic press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, CUPP leaders alleged that security agencies are fabricating charges against Ugochinyere in a bid to silence his outspoken criticism of political and legal misconduct in Nigeria.

The group accused unnamed political actors of masterminding the plot, which they claim includes framing Ugochinyere for criminal defamation, treason, and bribery of judicial officers.

“This is nothing but an attempt to destroy a fearless voice in the opposition and destabilize Rivers State,” CUPP Secretary General, High Chief Peter Ameh, declared.

Ugochinyere has reportedly faced similar accusations in the past. Despite being charged with treason and other serious crimes, he emerged victorious in his election, which he won in absentia, and successfully fought off what CUPP called “fabricated charges.”

    CUPP Warns of Dire Consequences

CUPP leaders issued a stern warning, stating that any harm to Ugochinyere would be met with robust reactions.

“The opposition family is mobilizing,” said Co-Spokesman Comrade Mark Adebayo. “We will confront these political buccaneers who think the only way to shut us up is by defaming our spokesman and framing outrageous allegations.”

The coalition vowed to protect Ugochinyere through legal action, public mobilization, and peaceful protests.

“We will not allow tyranny and oppression to thrive in our democracy,” Adebayo declared.

“Speaking Truth to Power Will Continue”

Ugochinyere’s vocal criticism has long been a thorn in the side of political figures accused of corruption and abuse of power.

The CUPP described him as “an incorruptible mouthpiece” whose mission to expose wrongdoing remains unwavering.

“Nothing on this earth can stop our spokesman from carrying out his God-given task of speaking truth to power,” CUPP stated.

A Broader Strategy to Silence Dissent?

The coalition alleged that the plot against Ugochinyere is part of a larger scheme to weaken the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and cripple opposition movements across Nigeria.

“This isn’t just about Ikenga; it’s about stifling all dissent within the opposition,” the CUPP claimed.

The group expressed concern over what they described as the misuse of state institutions for political gain, calling for an independent investigation into the actions of the security agencies involved.

“We must hold accountable those who abuse their positions to maintain their grip on power,” the coalition urged.

    Nationwide Protests Planned

To combat what it sees as a growing assault on democracy, CUPP announced plans to organize nationwide protests.

“We are mobilizing our supporters to peacefully resist this injustice,” Adebayo said. “Our protests will highlight the manipulation of state institutions and the need for transparency in governance.”

The coalition also called on civil society organizations, legal practitioners, and international observers to closely monitor the situation.

    A History of Resilience

CUPP reminded Nigerians of Ugochinyere’s resilience in the face of adversity.

In the past, he was accused of a litany of crimes, including terrorism, arson, and even murder. Yet, he overcame those challenges and continued to advocate for democratic reforms.

“This plot comes from the same textbook of intolerant dictators,” CUPP stated. “And just like before, it will fail.”

    Call to Action

The coalition appealed to Nigerians to stand against what it described as “tyranny and oppression.”

“We call on all Nigerians who value democracy and justice to join us in this fight,” CUPP said.

According to the group, Ugochinyere’s case is a symbol of the larger struggle to protect free speech and ensure accountability in governance.

“Together, we can send a loud and clear message that silencing dissent through intimidation will not be tolerated,” Adebayo concluded.

    The Opposition Stands Firm

The CUPP vowed to defend Ugochinyere in the courts, on the streets, and in the court of public opinion.
