Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has accused opposition parties of instigating unrest and instability in the state.
Yusuf made these claims on Wednesday during a State Executive Council Meeting in Kano.
The governor’s accusation follows a recent violent clash between two suspected political thugs in the heart of the city.
The clash left many residents worried about the rising wave of violence in the region.
Yusuf expressed his frustration with the situation, stating that opposition forces were behind the crisis.
“The opposition cannot stand the progress we are making in Kano,” Yusuf said, pointing directly at opposition party members.
He emphasized that this unrest was an attempt to undermine the state’s development and peace.
The recent violence in the city center, involving rival political gangs, is being seen as the latest in a series of disturbing events linked to political tension.
During the council meeting, Yusuf revealed that the state’s security agencies had gathered intelligence on those responsible for the violence.
The information, he said, clearly identified the opposition as the key players in orchestrating the unrest.
Yusuf believes the opposition is uncomfortable with the steady development and stability achieved under his administration.
“They are not happy with the peace and development we are building in this state,” he said, adding that they were attempting to disrupt it.
In response to the growing concerns over security, the governor vowed to take drastic measures to deal with the problem.
“We will do whatever it takes to stop these elements,” Yusuf promised.
He made it clear that his government would not tolerate any group or individual trying to disturb the peace in Kano.
As part of efforts to combat the violence, the governor outlined plans to strengthen the security framework of the state.
Yusuf assured residents that the government would work closely with security agencies to track down and deal with those responsible for the unrest.
“I will not allow these criminals to destabilize the state,” Yusuf declared.
In a bid to address the root causes of unrest, Yusuf also announced plans to reopen the state’s Reformatory Centre in Kiru local government area.
The reformatory centre, he said, would play a key role in rehabilitating young people and helping to control the rising problem of drug abuse in the state.
The move comes as part of a broader effort to curb criminal behavior among youths and promote social stability.
“We need to address the issue of drug abuse and thuggery, which have become widespread in the state,” the governor added.
Yusuf’s plans also include the establishment of the newly constituted Shura Consultative Council, which will bring together prominent Islamic scholars, academic leaders, and other key stakeholders.
The council, which will be inaugurated soon, is expected to offer advice on a range of social, political, and security issues affecting Kano.
The governor’s strong stance on tackling the unrest has been met with both support and criticism from various quarters.
Some residents have praised his leadership, while others are skeptical of his ability to quell the violence.
A local political analyst, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the unrest in Kano was a result of deeper political divisions within the state.
“The violence is not just about thuggery. It’s a reflection of the political tension between the ruling party and the opposition,” the analyst said.
Despite these challenges, Governor Yusuf remains resolute in his commitment to restore peace and security to Kano.
“The people of Kano deserve peace and stability,” he said.
Yusuf’s administration is under increasing pressure to address the unrest, with citizens demanding swift action from the government.
The state government’s response to these issues will be closely watched by both political observers and the general public in the coming weeks.
With the governor promising a strong response, it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold.
Kano State, once known for its cultural heritage and peaceful nature, has faced growing challenges related to political violence and unrest in recent years.
As the situation continues to develop, all eyes will be on how Governor Yusuf manages the crisis and whether his efforts will restore stability to the state.
The state’s security agencies, alongside local leadership, are expected to play a crucial role in controlling the rising tensions and ensuring peace returns to Kano.
