    Arewa Consultative Forum Backs Renaming of UniAbuja in Honour Of Gowon

    The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has applauded the federal government’s decision to rename the University of Abuja after General Yakubu Gowon, a former Head of State and renowned elder statesman.

    The apex northern sociocultural group described the gesture as a fitting tribute to a man who embodies national unity and service.

    ACF emphasized that the timing of the announcement made it even more special, coinciding with General Gowon’s 90th birthday.

    “This is not just an honor but also a Christmas gift of sorts to the amiable and charismatic General,” the group declared in a statement.

    The announcement by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to rename the institution after General Gowon has been widely celebrated, with the ACF being among the first to commend the move.

    Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, said the gesture reflects the nation’s gratitude for General Gowon’s selfless service.

    “It is pleasing that this honor was bestowed upon the ACF’s Grand Patron, a revered figure whose contributions to Nigeria remain unmatched,” Professor Muhammad-Baba remarked.

    General Yakubu Gowon served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1967 to 1975, a period marked by both immense challenges and national strides.
