Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the daughter of former Delta State Governor James Ibori, has made a shocking declaration, vowing to bury the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in her constituency.
The House of Representatives member, who represents the Ethiope Federal Constituency, made this dramatic statement during an empowerment programme in her community.
“I will bury the PDP in the Ologbo River,” she declared. “The wind and lightning that will destroy PDP have arrived.”
The statement, which has sent ripples through the political scene in Delta State, came as Ibori-Suenu distributed vehicles, motorcycles, sewing machines, and water pumps to the residents of her constituency.
While handing out these items, she spoke passionately about her political journey and her alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC), a party she now holds in high regard.
“My political alignment has always been with APC. The APC is the supreme party,” Ibori-Suenu said. “Although I was once a member of the PDP, I have since realised the true value of the APC.”
She recounted how the PDP had stifled her political aspirations, leading to her eventual defection to the APC.
“I am grateful to the APC for embracing me and supporting the people of Ethiope Federal Constituency,” she added.
Her words echoed a deeper sentiment of frustration with the PDP. She noted that the party had hindered her progress in politics, and now, she was determined to bring its reign to an end.
“I will not disappoint my people,” she said confidently. “The APC is here to stay, and we are committed to the development of Ethiope Federal Constituency.”
The empowerment event, where Ibori-Suenu gifted items to the people in her constituency, was a clear statement of her political influence and her growing support base. It was also an opportunity to reinforce her allegiance to the APC.
The lawmaker acknowledged the support of APC leaders, particularly Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Hon. Halims Agoda, for their role in her political journey.
“I appreciate the leadership of APC, especially Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Hon. Halims Agoda. God will bless you all,” she said.
Ibori-Suenu’s defection to APC is not an isolated case. In recent months, the PDP has seen a significant number of its members move to the ruling party. Her defection to APC is part of a wider trend that has seen key figures leave the PDP in favour of the APC, weakening the opposition party’s presence in the region.
Political analysts believe that Ibori-Suenu’s move to APC could signal a shift in the political dynamics of Delta State. Her father, James Ibori, remains a significant figure in the state, and her defection is seen as an extension of his political influence.
While Ibori-Suenu’s statements about burying the PDP may sound dramatic, they reflect a growing frustration among many former PDP members who feel that the party no longer represents their aspirations.
The PDP, once a dominant force in Nigerian politics, has faced significant challenges in recent years. The departure of key figures like Ibori-Suenu has raised questions about the future of the party in the region.
Despite her bold declaration, Ibori-Suenu’s loyalty to the APC seems unwavering. Her shift to APC, along with the growing number of defections, has left the PDP scrambling to maintain its grip on power.
Political observers are keenly watching how these defections will impact the 2023 elections, with the APC gaining ground in what was once PDP stronghold territory.
The power struggle between the PDP and APC in Delta State is far from over, and Ibori-Suenu’s words have added fuel to the fire.
In her statement, she underscored the growing influence of the APC in the state, even as the PDP’s dominance appears to be waning.
“We are capable, and we will not disappoint Ethiope Federal Constituency,” she declared, adding that her move to APC would lead to greater political and infrastructural benefits for her people.
As the political landscape in Delta continues to shift, the battle between the PDP and APC is only just beginning.
