Just days before Christmas, a deadly attack claimed the lives of 15 individuals in Gidan Ado village, located in the Ganawuri Chiefdom of Riyom Local Government Area (LGA), Plateau State.
The victims, including a pregnant woman and children, were killed around 8 p.m. on Sunday, just 34 hours after a security meeting was held to ensure a peaceful Christmas celebration.
Mr. Ezekiel Bini, the National President of the Irigwe Youth Development Association, confirmed the attack and condemned it as barbaric. He stressed that such coordinated killings were unacceptable, especially just before the holiday season.
He called on security agencies and the government to take immediate action to address security challenges and protect citizens in the lead-up to Christmas and the New Year.
The incident has also drawn the ire of local leaders. HRH Yakubu Chaiman, the Ata Aten of Ganawuri Chiefdom, and Clement Chup, the National President of the Ateng Development Association, both expressed their outrage and condemned the killings.
This attack echoes the violence of Christmas Eve 2023, when over 300 people were killed in coordinated assaults across Mangu, Bokkos, and Barkin Ladi local government areas in Plateau State.
As the holiday season approaches, concerns over the safety and security of citizens in Plateau State remain high, with calls for immediate government intervention to prevent further bloodshed.
