In a significant victory against terrorism, troops of Operation Fansan Yanma have arrested a suspected logistics supplier linked to terror activities in Zamfara State. Acting on credible intelligence, the soldiers intercepted the suspect, Shamsiyya Ahadu, at a snap checkpoint along the Kware-Badarawa road in Shinkafi Local Government Area.

The suspect was found with a shocking haul: 764 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, six magazines, and a talisman known locally as “laya,” often associated with spiritual protection. This arrest underscores the continuous efforts of Nigerian troops to disrupt the supply chains fueling terror groups across the country.

“This operation was precise and intelligence-driven,” a military source revealed. “It demonstrates our commitment to dismantling the networks that enable these groups to operate.”

    Motorcycle Rider Also Detained

Ahmed Husaini, a 26-year-old motorcycle rider, was also apprehended during the operation. Authorities suspect he was assisting in transporting the dangerous cargo, marking him as a crucial link in the terror supply chain. Investigations are ongoing to unravel the extent of his involvement.

Nationwide Achievements in the War on Terror

This arrest is part of a broader success story for the Nigerian military. In the past week alone, troops across the country have intensified their operations, leading to the arrest of 256 suspects, the neutralization of 148 terrorists, and the rescue of 291 hostages.

Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, detailed these achievements in a press briefing held in Abuja. “Our forces are relentless in their pursuit of peace and security,” he stated.

Among those arrested last week were two other ammunition couriers, identified as Danweri and Abubakar Hamza, apprehended in Bauchi State’s Alkaleri Local Government Area. These individuals were caught transporting an assortment of deadly weapons and ammunition.

Impressive Hauls of Weapons and Resources

The military’s efforts have yielded remarkable results in recent operations. Over 146 weapons and 2,599 rounds of assorted ammunition were recovered, including AK-47 rifles, PKT guns, fabricated firearms, and Dane guns.

The ammunition haul comprised 1,596 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 636 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo, and other specialized munitions. Additionally, three Baofeng radios, 36 motorcycles, 40 mobile phones, and N1.8 million in cash were seized.

“These figures highlight the scale of the challenges we face and our determination to overcome them,” Maj. Gen. Buba remarked.

Efforts Extend to the Niger Delta

The fight isn’t limited to landlocked states. In the Niger Delta, troops have destroyed 66 illegal refining sites, dismantled 68 crude oil ovens, and confiscated 657,470 liters of stolen crude oil.

    Strategic Importance of the Crackdowns

Security analysts have emphasized the importance of cutting off logistical supplies to terrorist organizations. Without steady access to ammunition, funds, and other resources, these groups are significantly weakened.

The military has vowed to remain vigilant, promising to sustain its momentum in the fight against terror. “Our mission is clear: to secure every inch of this nation,” Maj. Gen. Buba affirmed.

The arrest of Shamsiyya Ahadu and the ongoing efforts across Nigeria underscore the importance of sustained intelligence gathering, collaboration with local communities, and unrelenting military action.
