The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has issued a clarion call to Nigerians and Christians worldwide to embark on a 100-day fast and prayer session to avert what he described as the looming threat of a Third World War.
Speaking at the RCCG’s first Holy Ghost Service of 2025, held at Redemption City in Ogun State, Adeboye voiced deep concern about rising global conflicts and natural disasters, warning that humanity was on the brink of catastrophe.
“If there is a world war, it will affect you wherever you are,” he cautioned, addressing the thousands of worshippers present. “We must pray that new wars do not erupt and that ongoing wars do not escalate out of control.”
Prayers for Global Peace
The revered cleric outlined a detailed prayer agenda, urging the church to seek divine intervention against global tensions and increasing instability. He highlighted that the prayers would also focus on natural disasters, including violent storms, floods, and fire outbreaks, which he predicted could surpass previous years in devastation.
“The Lord wants us to pray against these disasters,” he said solemnly. “This is not the time to take things for granted.”
The call for fasting was accompanied by specific guidelines. Members aged 70 and above, he humorously noted, were exempt from full fasting requirements.
“If you are over 70, your prayers are like local calls to heaven—you don’t need an international code. You’ve already gotten your boarding pass,” Adeboye quipped, eliciting laughter from the congregation. “For those over 80, break your fast at 12 noon; and for those over 90, we don’t want you to fast at all. We still want you with us.”
Prayers for Nigeria
While global peace was a central focus, Adeboye also zeroed in on Nigeria’s challenges, dedicating the first 30 days of the fast to praying against corruption and sabotage within the nation.
He warned that some prayers would require a “violent” approach, particularly against individuals determined to undermine the country’s progress.
“These prayers are targeted,” he said, his tone firm. “We must pray to uproot the forces working against Nigeria’s development.”
Adeboye encouraged members to maintain spiritual focus during the fast, emphasizing the importance of collective prayer. “When you are fasting, you should talk less and pray more. Gather in the church by 6 p.m. daily to seek God’s face together,” he advised.
Prophecies for 2025
The revered pastor also shared divine revelations for the year, describing 2025 as a landmark season of breakthroughs and divine favor. He predicted that long-awaited prayers would be answered, particularly in the areas of marriage, promotion, and career advancement.
“There will be many wedding bells this year,” he declared. “The wind will blow stronger than before, bringing remarkable promotions and progress for many.”
However, his optimism was tempered by a warning. Adeboye urged vigilance and prayer to counterbalance the potential escalation of global tensions and natural calamities.
Averting the Third World War
Adeboye’s warning about the possibility of a Third World War has sparked widespread attention. His statement reflects growing global concerns about heightened geopolitical tensions, particularly in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
The cleric noted that such a conflict would have devastating consequences, transcending national borders and sparing no one. “We must not underestimate the gravity of what is unfolding around the world,” he urged.
This call for intercession comes at a time when experts have repeatedly warned about the risks of unchecked conflict, with some drawing parallels to the events that preceded the world wars of the 20th century.
Natural Disasters and Divine Warnings
On the global stage, Adeboye emphasized the need for prayers against unprecedented natural disasters. Referring to divine revelations, he said, “The wind will blow stronger, and storms, floods, and fires will become more intense. These are signs we must not ignore.”
The pastor’s predictions align with scientific reports indicating that climate change is exacerbating natural disasters worldwide. Floods, wildfires, and hurricanes have reached record-breaking levels in recent years, leading to loss of life and massive displacement.
Adeboye urged Christians to rise to the occasion, saying, “God has given us the power of prayer. Let us use it to make a difference.”
A Call to Action
As Nigeria grapples with economic recovery, insecurity, and political uncertainty, Adeboye’s call for prayer resonates deeply with many. His emphasis on spiritual vigilance and collective action underscores the role of faith in addressing national and global challenges.
“The time for complacency is over,” he reminded his audience. “Let us seek God with all our hearts and pray for His mercy upon the world.”
The 100-day fast is expected to galvanize millions of RCCG members worldwide, reinforcing the church’s position as one of the largest and most influential Christian organisations globally.
