Fatal Stabbing: Ogun Police Probe Lovers for Death of Chinese National

    Share

The Ogun State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for a man named Jonah and his unidentified girlfriend after they allegedly murdered a Chinese national, Chen Wang, in cold blood. The chilling incident unfolded on January 12, 2025, at Fujiada Electronics Technology Company Ltd., located along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

According to the police, the tragic event occurred around noon when the company’s workers were on their scheduled lunch break. It was during this period that the suspects, a man known only as Jonah and his female accomplice, reportedly entered the office of 33-year-old Chen Wang, who was the manager of the company. The two individuals allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident to news outlets in Abeokuta, stating that investigations were already underway. “We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Chen Wang. A report was filed with the Ogere Police Division shortly after the murder, and detectives from the division have conducted an initial investigation at the scene,” Odutola said.

Wang, an expatriate from China, had been living and working in Nigeria for several years as the manager of Fujiada Electronics, a company that specializes in the production of electronic components. His brutal killing has raised alarm within both the Chinese expatriate community and local residents, who are now calling for swift justice.

The police spokesperson further explained that the company’s manager, Akosile Akinsanmi, had been the first to alert the authorities. “Akinsanmi reported the crime shortly after discovering the lifeless body of Mr. Wang. It appears the attack was swift and brutal, as there were no signs of a struggle or robbery,” Odutola explained. “Our preliminary investigation suggests that this was a targeted attack, but the motive remains unclear. We are exploring all possibilities.”

    A Grim Scene

Investigators who visited the scene described a harrowing discovery. The victim’s body was found slumped in his office, with multiple stab wounds. A source close to the investigation revealed that detectives had taken photographs of the scene, while the body was transferred to Babcock University Teaching Hospital in nearby Ilisan for a postmortem examination. This will help determine the exact cause of death and potentially shed light on the circumstances surrounding the crime.

Speaking on the investigation, a senior police officer stated, “We have been working diligently on this case, but as of now, the suspects remain at large. Our primary objective is to locate and apprehend Jonah and his girlfriend, as they are the key suspects in this murder.”

Local sources indicate that the suspects might have had prior dealings with the victim. However, no concrete evidence has yet been found to support this theory. Fujiada Electronics has not yet made any official statements regarding the incident, but there is speculation that the killing might be linked to personal or business disputes. The police are also considering whether the suspects had any connection to the company or were known to Wang before the attack.

    Tensions in the Community

Chen Wang’s death has sent shockwaves through the local community in Ogun State, particularly among Chinese expatriates, many of whom have expressed concerns over their safety. A member of the Chinese community in Ogun, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “This is a tragic event. We do not know why someone would want to hurt Chen. He was a peaceful person, and this is very worrying for all of us here. We hope the police will catch those responsible soon.”

The murder of a foreign national in such a brutal manner has highlighted broader concerns about the safety of expatriates living in Nigeria. Many foreign nationals in Ogun, Lagos, and other parts of Nigeria have often faced security challenges, especially with the rise in crimes targeting business owners and their employees. Local security experts have called for better coordination between law enforcement agencies and community leaders to ensure the safety of both foreign and local citizens.

As news of the killing spread across social media and news outlets, members of the public have begun to express frustration over the apparent ease with which the suspects were able to escape. Some have questioned the effectiveness of security measures at companies like Fujiada Electronics and other similar businesses that employ foreign nationals. A resident of the area, Babajide Afolabi, remarked, “This is a wake-up call. We need better security, not just for foreigners but for everyone living here.”

    Investigation Continues

The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects. “We are doing everything we can to catch Jonah and his girlfriend. Our detectives are working round the clock, and we are confident that they will be apprehended soon,” said Odutola. The case, she added, would soon be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCID) for a more detailed inquiry.

A reward for information leading to the arrest of the killers has also been announced, further intensifying the manhunt.

In the meantime, the Chinese embassy in Nigeria has expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured that they are in contact with local authorities to ensure that the investigation is conducted thoroughly. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. Chen Wang, and our thoughts are with his family and colleagues. We trust that the Nigerian authorities will bring those responsible to justice,” the embassy said in a statement.
