    Wike Praises Tinubu’s Record-Breaking N300bn Abuja Investments

    Share

In a dramatic revelation, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has spent over ₦300 billion on developing satellite towns across the FCT in just one year.

Speaking at the inauguration of the rehabilitated nine-kilometer Paikon Kore-Ibwa Road in Gwagwalada Area Council, Wike emphasized the administration’s commitment to equitable development. “Mr. President is not only focused on developing Abuja city but is equally committed to ensuring that satellite towns benefit from impactful projects,” he declared.

    Breaking Down the Figures

Wike highlighted that ₦50 billion out of the total amount was allocated specifically to Gwagwalada Area Council. Of this, ₦8.5 billion was spent on the Paikon Kore-Ibwa Road alone, while an additional ₦22 billion was set aside for the ongoing construction of the Aguma Palace-Market-Radio Nigeria Road. This latter project is expected to be completed and inaugurated by May 2025, coinciding with Tinubu’s second year in office.

Education has also been a major focus, with ₦16.5 billion allocated to rehabilitate and upgrade five secondary schools in the area, including the School for the Gifted and Government Secondary Schools in Gwagwalada, Anagada, and Giri. Wike stressed, “If you consider the investments across all six area councils, you’ll see that over ₦300 billion has gone into developing FCT satellite towns within a year.”

    A Response to Critics

The Minister dismissed claims that Tinubu’s administration has neglected rural areas in favor of Abuja’s city center. “These figures are undeniable proof for anyone doubting the government’s dedication to inclusive development,” Wike stated.

The Paikon Kore-Ibwa Road rehabilitation was initiated following persistent requests from residents, who lamented the poor state of infrastructure. “This road is not just a project; it is a response to the people’s needs,” Wike said during the inauguration ceremony.

    Promises and Progress

The minister further assured residents that the administration remains committed to participatory governance. “We will continue to execute projects that reflect the priorities of our communities,” he said, responding to Vice Chairman Saidu Zuba’s appeal for the construction of the Ibwa bridge. Zuba highlighted the dangers faced by students during the rainy season, stating, “We lose many young lives to flooding as they attempt to cross the bridge.”

    Security and Economic Gains

Beyond infrastructure, Wike’s leadership has reportedly improved security in Gwagwalada. “These projects have not only boosted rural infrastructure but also enhanced security,” Zuba said, describing Wike as “a blessing to the people.”

The Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Mr. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, praised the administration for prioritizing rural growth. He explained that the rehabilitated Paikon Kore-Ibwa Road, handled by Setraco Nigeria Ltd, was strategically designed to spur economic activity and connect communities. “This road opens new opportunities for businesses and fosters sustainable development in rural areas,” Zulkiflu remarked.

    Community Involvement Encouraged

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, FCT Minister of State, urged residents to protect the newly constructed roads and foster collaboration for future developments. “May this road serve as a beacon of unity and progress for our community,” she said, highlighting the importance of responsible usage.
