A midnight fire has ravaged Ladipo Market, Mushin, Lagos State destroying goods worth several millions of naira.
The fire incidents destroyed electronics, generators, bicycles, auto spare parts, furniture, mobile phones, home appliances and power bikes in the market.
There were, however, no casualties, eventhough, the fire rapidly engulfed a warehouse surrounded by multiple shops.
Speaking on the incident, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that following distress calls at 12:09 a.m., LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team arrived the scene about 12:16 a.m., to battle the blaze.
Oke-Osanyintolu said, “Although the exact cause of the fire was initially unknown, a post-disaster assessment determined that the inferno was triggered by power surge after public electricity was restored to the area.
“Authorities successfully contained the fire and completed a dampening-down operation to prevent reignition. Additionally, shop owners and warehouse occupants were sensitised on fire safety measures to prevent a recurrence.”
