The leader of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in Kwara State, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, has been tragically shot dead by unknown gunmen. The 32-year-old was killed on Saturday night in front of his residence in Oke Ose, Ilorin, Kwara State, in what authorities and witnesses are calling a mysterious and unprovoked attack.
The incident occurred around 10:30 pm, when the gunmen ambushed Sakaina in front of his home. According to local sources, the attackers did not steal anything from him, leaving many to wonder about the motive behind the cold-blooded killing. “They left him in a pool of his blood. They didn’t take anything from him, and the reason for such an attack is still unclear,” a source, who wished to remain anonymous, stated.
Sakaina, a well-known figure in the Fulani community, was a former Special Assistant to the Chairman of Moro Local Government in Kwara. He was also the Youth Leader of the Fulani people in the state, a position that gave him significant influence in the community. His death has sent shockwaves through the area, leaving many of his supporters and colleagues in disbelief.
One of the last people to see him alive, Aina’u Sarki, described the tragic final moments. “I was with him about 20 minutes before he was killed. Someone called me and informed me that he had been shot dead,” Sarki said, his voice filled with sorrow.
The brutal attack has left his family, friends, and the wider community searching for answers, as there is still no clear explanation for the assault.
The attack has raised numerous questions about the motive behind the killing, as it seems there were no signs of robbery or personal conflict leading up to the incident. Alhaji Sakaina, known for his involvement in cattle breeding and community leadership, did not appear to have enemies that could explain such a violent act.
Muhammed Abdullahi, the Special Assistant to Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Inter-Community Relations, confirmed the tragedy, expressing his grief over the loss. “Yes, he was killed in front of his residence on Saturday night by some gunmen who left him for dead,” Abdullahi said. He also mentioned that the authorities had already begun their investigation into the incident. “We are preparing for his janaza as I speak to you now, but the police were here yesterday and have started an investigation,” he added.
As of now, the police have yet to release any official statement on the incident.
While the police have launched an investigation, many residents are worried that the killing might not be solved quickly, as there is no clear lead or motive. The killing of a high-profile individual like Alhaji Sakaina has sparked concern about safety in the region, especially in light of other violent attacks that have plagued parts of the country in recent months.
