The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected cultists and recovered firearms during a raid on an alleged cult meeting in the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement on Saturday that the suspects, aged 28, 34, and 38, were arrested on April 26 during a gathering believed to be a cult meeting at Elemoro.
Hundeyin explained that police operatives on routine patrol received intelligence about a group of about 15 suspected cultists. Officers quickly moved to the location, where they successfully apprehended three suspects while others escaped.
A search on the arrested individuals led to the recovery of two pistols—one defaced Beretta and a locally made firearm loaded with an unspent cartridge.
He added that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, and investigations are continuing.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, has vowed to rid Lagos of cultism and other criminal activities, stating that under his leadership, “there will be no hiding place for cultists or any criminal element.”
