Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a woman, Ihensekhien Miracle Obehi, at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Rivers State, while trying to smuggle cocaine to Iran.
According to a statement released on Sunday by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the suspect was caught on May 3, 2025, while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to Iran via Doha. She had tried to evade security checks by dressing in a hijab, but was intercepted following credible intelligence.
Upon searching her, officers discovered three wraps of cocaine inserted in her private part, two large parcels hidden in a false bottom of her handbag, and found that she had swallowed 67 pellets of the drug. Obehi was placed under observation and later excreted all 67 wraps.
She confessed she was supposed to swallow 70 pellets but could only manage 67, and decided to hide the remaining three internally. The total weight of the cocaine found on her was 2.523 kilograms.
In a related case, the NDLEA also intercepted a 22-year-old British national, Campell Kaizra Kofi Johannes Slifer, at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on May 9. He was found with two suitcases containing 35 parcels of “Loud,” a strong strain of cannabis, weighing 37.60kg. He had arrived from Thailand via Doha.
The NDLEA has reaffirmed its commitment to intercepting illegal drug traffickers and urged the public to continue providing useful information that can help in its operations.
