The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the gunmen who shot and killed a lawyer and his client shortly after a court session in Ekwulobia, Orumba North Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the lawyer had just secured bail for his client, who was facing a murder charge, when the gunmen ambushed them as they were returning from High Court II on Thursday. Two other individuals who accompanied the lawyer were also shot, but one survived the attack.
The police commissioner, Ikioye Orutugu, visited the crime scene at Egbebelu village, where he ordered an intensive investigation into the incident. A red Toyota Camry, believed to belong to one of the victims, was recovered from the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were likely trailed from the court, and the attackers double-crossed them. The sole survivor, who is currently receiving medical treatment, has provided valuable information to assist in the police’s ongoing investigation.
The police have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice as the search for the killers continues.
