The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed public fears surrounding a viral video showing a group of young men arriving in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

The video, which sparked panic online, was confirmed to show 89 men who were legitimately recruited from Katsina State to work at the Dangote Refinery in Lekki.

In a statement posted on Friday via X (formerly Twitter), the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said police officers were immediately deployed to investigate after receiving the report on May 14, 2025.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the young men, 89 in number, had been recruited to work as labourers at the Dangote Refinery,” the statement said.

The contractor who brought them and the refinery’s Chief Security Officer both confirmed that the men had been cleared to live and work at the site.
