NBA to Establish Anti-Corruption Committees in All 130 Branches Nationwide

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced plans to establish anti-corruption committees in each of its 130 branches across the country as part of a renewed effort to tackle corruption within the legal system and broader society.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the NBA National Anti-Corruption Committee, Prof. Babafemi Badejo, in a statement released on Monday and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to Badejo, the NBA National Executive Committee (NEC), at its recent meeting in Ilorin, passed a resolution mandating all branches to form their own anti-corruption committees.

“These committees will work closely with local law enforcement, judiciary, and community organisations to fight corruption at the grassroots,” he said.

He added that the branch committees will also collaborate with the national anti-corruption committee to ensure a unified and effective approach to addressing corruption-related issues.

Prof. Badejo explained that this initiative is part of the NBA’s broader mission to promote accountability and uphold the rule of law in Nigeria. He credited NBA President, Afam Osigwe (SAN), for taking the bold step to create the national committee earlier this year.

“With this coordinated structure and freedom at the branch level to design anti-corruption programmes, the NBA is making it clear that corruption is not acceptable,” Badejo stated.

He highlighted that for the NBA, fighting corruption is not just a professional duty but a national responsibility, as the association positions itself as a leading voice for justice and integrity in Nigeria.
