A commercial motorcyclist, Nazifi Ibrahim, was shot dead by gunmen late Monday night at Alafia Street, along the Ore-Benin Expressway in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. as the victim was returning after dropping off a passenger. He was reportedly confronted by suspected motorcycle snatchers who shot him and fled with his bike.
“We don’t know what happened between him and the attackers, but they shot him on the spot and took away his motorcycle,” a witness told newsmen. The gunfire caused panic in the neighbourhood, with residents fleeing the area.
Nazifi, who was originally from Northern Nigeria, has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident. Police spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said investigations are underway to uncover the circumstances behind the killing.
“We will ensure the killers are arrested and brought to justice,” he assured.
This incident adds to growing concerns about the safety of commercial motorcyclists in the state, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.
