The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rearrested a notorious armed robbery suspect, Yewa Yakubu Ibrahim, 35, who was discovered to be coordinating a major criminal operation from inside the Kuje Correctional Facility.

Yewa, an inmate serving time, was found to be running a network involved in armed robbery, drug trafficking, and the illegal sale of vehicles across several states, including Lagos, Abuja, and Bauchi. Operatives of the Scorpion Squad apprehended him following months of intelligence gathering.

Police sources revealed that Yewa’s gang specialized in stealing Hilux vans and SUVs, and distributing hard drugs using creative smuggling methods. He reportedly used petroleum tankers to move drugs and claimed to have contacts as far as Niger Republic.

Three of his accomplices—Stephen Musa, Godiya Bitrus, and Armiya Emmanuel—were also arrested. Stephen Musa was caught while trying to disable a tracking device on a Toyota Corolla with registration number KUJ 208 DA. The vehicle had been stolen at gunpoint in Shetuko Village, Kuje, on April 8, 2025.

Musa confessed to buying the car from Yewa for ₦1.8 million. Meanwhile, Armiya Emmanuel was arrested in Bauchi with ₦1 million believed to be part of the proceeds from the sale of stolen vehicles.

During interrogation, Yewa admitted his deep involvement in the criminal trade and even recalled accidentally shooting himself in the foot during a failed operation in Mabushi in 2018.

Security sources say the arrest was made possible by coordinated efforts under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, FCT. All suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about prison security and how some inmates manage to operate criminal networks from behind bars. The FCT Police Command has vowed to tighten security around correctional facilities and disrupt any criminal activities linked to inmates.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as police continue efforts to dismantle the wider network.
