Fraudsters Offer Fake Admission for 150 JAMB Score – Varsity Cries Out

    Share

The Management of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), in Abia State, has raised the alarm over fraudulent activities by unknown individuals offering fake admissions to unsuspecting candidates who scored 150 and above in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement released on Thursday by the University Registrar, Dr. Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, the institution dissociated itself from viral social media advertisements claiming that candidates with a minimum of 150 UTME score can secure admission into its College of Management Sciences (COLMAS).

The University made it clear that it has not yet set any official cut-off marks for the 2025/2026 admission exercise, adding that neither the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) nor the MOUAU admission board has fixed any score requirements so far.

“These publications are false and misleading,” the statement read. “We urge the general public and prospective students not to fall victim to these fraudulent claims. The University has not authorised any individual or group to carry out such admission campaigns.”

The fake admissions were reportedly being circulated on various social media platforms, encouraging candidates to apply to COLMAS programmes such as Accounting, Banking and Finance, Economics, Marketing, and Business Administration, using the claim of a 150 UTME score as the minimum requirement.

MOUAU management stressed that all valid information regarding admission procedures and requirements will only be published on the University’s official website and not on third-party platforms or social media posts.

The University warned candidates and parents to be extra cautious and avoid dealing with unverified sources. “Any candidate who follows such fraudulent channels does so at their own risk,” the Registrar warned.

In a positive development, the University also announced that all five undergraduate programmes under the College of Management Sciences — Accounting, Banking and Finance, Economics, Marketing, and Business Administration — have now received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC). These programmes have also been listed by JAMB, making them fully recognized and open to qualified applicants through proper channels.

This accreditation is a significant milestone for the institution, reflecting its commitment to quality education and academic standards.

MOUAU encouraged prospective students to wait for official announcements from JAMB and the University before taking any admission-related steps. The management reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and adherence to due process in its admission exercises.

Candidates seeking to apply to MOUAU are advised to monitor the University’s official website and JAMB CAPS portal for authentic updates and information on the 2025/2026 admission cycle.

With the increasing rate of admission scams in Nigeria, universities and stakeholders continue to warn students and parents to be wary of fraudulent schemes promising admission shortcuts or using low JAMB scores to lure unsuspecting candidates.
