The incident occurred at their residence in Bani Hashimu Estate, Limawa ‘A’ area of Minna on the night of Tuesday, June 3, 2025. According to the police, the couple had a history of domestic abuse, which allegedly culminated in Hauwa’s death.

Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that Hauwa was a victim of repeated physical abuse. Neighbours told police that the suspect, Mohammed Sani, had a history of beating his wife.

“He is suspected to have committed the act due to the allegation of wife battery as alleged by neighbours,” SP Abiodun added.

Mohammed Sani has since been arrested, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

This incident has sparked fresh outrage over domestic violence in Nigeria, especially as it involved a pregnant woman. Many have called for swift justice and stronger measures to protect women from domestic abuse.
