Nigerian music star and Grammy Award winner, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has been announced as one of the headline performers at the first-ever FIFA Club World Cup final halftime show, scheduled to take place on July 13, 2025, at the MetLife Stadium in the United States.
Tems will join Colombian superstar J Balvin and American singer Doja Cat in what promises to be a high-energy, globally televised performance during the final match of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup.
Speaking ahead of the event, Tems expressed her excitement and pride in being part of a moment that combines music, sport, and global unity.
“We’re going to bring the world together for a beautiful moment — to celebrate football, feel the unity that music brings, and help improve the lives of millions of children through the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund (FGCEF),” Tems said. “I can’t wait. See you at the FIFA Club World Cup final!”
This historic halftime show is being produced by Global Citizen, an international advocacy group known for organizing large-scale events with a focus on ending global poverty, improving education, and driving social change. The performance is aimed at raising awareness and support for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund (FGCEF).
The FGCEF is a collaborative initiative launched by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Global Citizen co-founder Hugh Evans. The goal is to raise \$100 million to provide access to quality education and football programs for millions of children worldwide.
According to the organisers, the fund will especially benefit underprivileged communities where access to education and opportunities in sports remain limited. It also aligns with FIFA’s growing commitment to social development through football.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will run from June 14 to July 13, 2025, and for the first time, it will feature 32 clubs from around the world in a format similar to the FIFA Men’s World Cup. The final, set for the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, is expected to draw millions of viewers both at the venue and through live global broadcasts.
For Tems, this opportunity represents another major step in her fast-rising international career. The Nigerian singer has gained worldwide attention for her soulful voice and hit songs like “Essence” (with Wizkid), “Free Mind,” and “Higher.” She also won a Grammy in 2023 for Best Melodic Rap Performance as a featured artist on Future’s “Wait for U,” alongside Drake.
Her inclusion in the FIFA halftime show places her among a growing list of Nigerian artists making waves on global stages, further solidifying Nigeria’s place as a powerhouse in global music and entertainment.
The performance will not only spotlight her music but will also serve as a platform to advocate for the importance of education for all children—especially in developing countries like Nigeria, where millions of young people still struggle to access basic schooling.
As the countdown to the final match continues, excitement is building around both the football and the entertainment, with fans around the world looking forward to a spectacular blend of sport and culture.
With the combination of star power and a powerful cause, Tems’ performance at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup promises to be more than just music — it aims to inspire change, promote unity, and support the dreams of children through the power of education and football.
