Former Osun State Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has pledged to lead the All Progressives Congress (APC) to victory in the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Oyetola made this known on Thursday during the inauguration and award ceremony of the Iron Ladies Group, a prominent women’s association within the Osun APC, held in Osogbo. Though absent physically, Oyetola was represented by the former Director-General of the State Bureau of Social Services, Mr. Richard Tinubu.
“I will provide leadership for the APC and work hard to return the party to power in 2026,” Oyetola declared, calling on party members to unite and mobilise aggressively ahead of the polls.
Osun State is scheduled to hold its next governorship election on August 8, 2026. The current governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is expected to seek re-election.
Oyetola stressed the need for grassroots mobilisation and urged party faithful to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration, noting that the president is working to reposition the economy for the benefit of all Nigerians.
In her welcome speech, the state coordinator of the Iron Ladies Group, Adesola Ayangbile, said the group was founded to promote women’s involvement in politics and welfare programmes. She announced the group’s endorsement of Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), as their preferred aspirant for the APC governorship ticket in 2026.
“We believe in his capacity to deliver and we will also support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027,” Ayangbile added.
Speaking on behalf of her husband, Dr. Shekinat Oyebamiji received an award from the group and appreciated their endorsement. She assured them that Bola Oyebamiji would not disappoint if given the opportunity to serve as governor.
The event marks a renewed push by the Osun APC to regroup and strengthen ahead of the next election cycle, with growing calls for unity and strategic planning within the party.
