Twelve wedding guests travelling from Zaria in Kaduna State were brutally killed by a mob in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State on Friday night. Eleven others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

The victims, who were members of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) sect, were on their way to Qua’an Pan Local Government Area to attend a wedding when they were attacked around 8pm. The group, including men, women, and children, was travelling in an 18-seater Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria bus.

According to the Chief Imam of JIBWIS, Sheikh Suleiman Haruna, eight corpses have been recovered and taken to Mangu General Hospital. “We are still working with security officials to locate the remaining four bodies,” he said, praising the efforts of the Mangu LGA chairman.

A survivor, Ibrahim Umar, narrated the harrowing experience. “We got lost on the way and stopped to ask for directions. Suddenly, we were surrounded by a mob shouting that we should be killed. They attacked us with weapons, killed the driver first, and set the bus on fire with people inside,” he said.

The Plateau State Police Command has acknowledged the incident but said a formal statement would be released later. The attack adds to ongoing concerns about communal violence and insecurity in parts of Plateau State.
