The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports of a northern conspiracy against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, describing the claim as baseless and malicious.
National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, made the statement on Monday during a media roundtable organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone B, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Bashiru described the rumour of a northern gang-up as “a lie from the pit of hell” and insisted that the North remains solidly behind Tinubu. He cited recent visits to cities like Katsina, Kano, Gombe, and Kaduna, where the president received massive support and public cheers.
“It’s a lie from the pit of hell to claim the North is ganging up against Tinubu. I say this from a position of knowledge,” he said. “I am not a flimsy person. I guide myself by Amilcar Cabral’s words: ‘Tell no lies, claim no easy victories’.”
According to Bashiru, songs like Dauda Kahutu Rarara’s ‘Omo Ologo’ in praise of the president have become popular across northern communities — a sign, he said, of Tinubu’s growing popularity.
The APC chieftain also dismissed the recently formed opposition coalition, calling it a “mushroom contraption” filled with self-serving individuals with no real political relevance.
He assured Nigerians that the ruling party remains united and focused on delivering on its mandate under President Tinubu.
