A spokesman for President Bola Tinubu, Daniel Bwala, has claimed that former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has abandoned his presidential ambition in favour of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Bwala made the statement during an interview on Politics Today, a political programme aired on Channels Television on Monday. According to him, Obi has now taken a back seat in the political race and is even competing with former Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, for the position of running mate.
All three politicians—Atiku, Obi, and Amaechi are reportedly involved in a new coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a platform formed to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
“Peter Obi now is a non-issue. He’s a non-starter. He has already conceded his presidential ambition to Atiku,” Bwala said. “Now he’s fighting for the vice-presidential ticket with Amaechi. From what we hear, they’ve promised him the role of Director-General of the campaign, and that if they win, Atiku will serve only one term, after which Obi will be supported to run.”
While the coalition is yet to officially announce its structure or ticket, Bwala’s comments have stirred speculation about internal arrangements and future political strategies ahead of the 2027 elections.
Peter Obi, who came third in the 2023 presidential elections under the Labour Party, has not yet responded to these claims.
