A suspected bandit was killed by an angry mob in the early hours of Sunday after an attack on Tse-Nor, a village in Harga District of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Benue State.
The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. when gunmen stormed the community and opened fire, injuring a resident, Iorsue Ukande, who was shot in the thigh.
In response, angry youths from the village pursued the attackers and managed to catch one of the suspected gunmen. The suspect was beaten to death on the spot, while the rest of the attackers fled.
The body of the deceased was taken to the General Hospital in Katsina-Ala, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.
Ukande, the injured victim, is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Community leaders have since called for calm while urging security agencies to strengthen patrols in the area to prevent further attacks.
