Former Minister of Police Affairs and three-time governorship candidate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State, Adamu Maina Waziri, has officially left the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Waziri announced his defection on Monday during a political event in Potiskum Local Government Area. He submitted his resignation letter to the PDP Ward Chairman at Dogo-Tebo ward in Potiskum, ending decades of political ties with the party.
A former PDP Board of Trustees member, Waziri said the party’s current direction no longer reflects the values of a credible opposition. “The PDP has lost its moral standing as the primary opposition bastion,” he said, adding that the leadership no longer acts in line with what is expected from a national party.
Waziri said he would now work with the ADC to build a new political movement that can restore hope to Nigerians. “I will mobilise my supporters to join the ADC. It is time for a new direction,” he said.
His announcement came during an ADC North-East zonal meeting in Potiskum, where party leaders also called on the youth, women, and elderly to support the ADC’s mission for national development.
Waziri’s defection is seen as a major political shift in Yobe State, with analysts noting that his move could strengthen the ADC ahead of future elections.
