The Presidency has dismissed the newly formed opposition coalition, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying it lacks direction and will not survive beyond six months.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, said the ADC is already showing signs of internal crisis and lacks the political strength to challenge the current administration.

Bwala described the party as a “coalition of internally displaced politicians” without any clear policy alternatives or vision for the country.

“They have not been able to present a single alternative policy. All they do is criticise the government and issue press statements. Nigerians are not fooled, they want leadership, not noise,” he said.

He added that even top opposition figures like Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s Vice-Presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, have raised concerns about the ADC’s internal structure and leadership struggles.

Baba-Ahmed had earlier warned that the excitement around the ADC should be managed carefully, stressing that the real challenge would come when the coalition has to agree on a single presidential candidate.

Bwala dismissed the idea that the ADC poses any real threat to Tinubu’s presidency and predicted that the party would soon disintegrate due to weak internal cohesion and lack of solid ideas.

The ADC was recently formed as a merger of several opposition interests seeking to unite ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, doubts about its strength and stability continue to trail the new coalition.
